Welcome Back Alhana!

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Hey guys!

So, today I can officially say I am back to the blogging world! It was a really tough semester for me, so I really had to concentrate on those studies. Since today is my "welcome back" post, I have decided to grace you all with a short under four minute video!

I have kind of been in possession of this amazing camera my parents got me (Nikon) for Christmas a little over two years ago, but I rarely used it. My older brother would usually take it with him to Europe, or I would completely forget about it. I had wanted it to take professional pictures with and videos for my YouTube channel. My only problem was that I didn't have anything to hold the camera up on. So, my amazing brother, Alexander, bought me my very first tripod for Christmas! I, being the impatient person that I am, started working on some pieces straight away. So, without further ado, here is me, singing Titanium by David Guetta…

Hope you enjoyed!

Study Habits: 10 Ways to have a Successful Cram Session

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Source

Now, we all think we know best when it comes to studying, but how much do you really know? If you are one of those people that gets all A's in college, then you should probably post in the comments below, and give me some of YOUR tips.
I know it's that time of the year again where midterms are starting to appear in your planner, and all the professors decide that they are going to schedule their exams on the same day. Never mind that you won't be getting sleep the night before because of the first exam. You know what, you might as well just clear your sleeping schedule next week and turn into superman, because you know that in order for you to get some resemblance of a grade you want, you're going to need some major study cram time.
Once again, this obviously does not apply to everyone, and if it doesn't then please refrain from reading and commenting obscene comments like, "you should have started studying two weeks ago!" Nobody wants to hear your negative feedback. Not everyone gets the time to study like you do, so pat yourself on the back, and move on.
So, back to what I was saying…ah yes, studying. If you are the person who couldn't put yourself two-steps ahead of your classes, because let's be honest, college is hard and you are always really busy, then here are some tips that will help with a study cram session:

  1. Get a really good night's sleep 2-3 days before you start studying for all your exams. You need some resemblance of your body shutting down for one night, because you know it's going to be under some severe stress the next few days.
    Source
  2. Turn off your phone; cut yourself off of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pintrest, Tumblur, and any other distraction you have purposely signed up for to serve as an interference from your studies.
  3. If you get a chance during the day, hit up a library, go into a study room or a private cubby, and start reviewing over your notes. When you are in a library, you will get this sense of, "Oh crap, I have no social media to keep me distracted, and no one to talk to! I think I'm going to study, I guess."
  4. When you go back to your dorm, or apartment, or wherever you live, tell all your roommates (or family if you live at home) to not disturb you. You need some peace and quite.
    Source
  5. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go into your room, and study on your bed. A bed is meant to be slept in; it is there to help you relax. It is NOT there to be defiled. It will not appreciate you if you bring your work onto it. More so then not, it will make you succumb to a long slumber, and when you wake up you will have a grueling headache, a need to pee, and a sense of you not knowing where you are.
  6. Get yourself a huge table, and clear off everything but your school stuff. You can use a desk, or a kitchen table if you have not acquired a desk.
  7. Put some snacks in your tummy. Go get a plate of fruits and vegetables, hummus, and pour yourself a cup of tea. Junk food hurts your stomach, and will make you have nightmares if you fall asleep at your desk. Okay, I know that I probably should have said coffee and an energy drink, but I really think that its not very healthy to live off of those two drinks. Energy drinks mess up your heart, and coffee is a bad addiction to get started on. Stick to the healthier options; your body will thank you later.
    Source
  8. Turn on some classical music. Do not have it on full blast; let it just quietly play in the background. It helps with memory, and helps with concentration.
  9. Put a mint in your mouth when studying, then eat that same flavor mint when it comes time for the test. Scientific studies have shown that when you eat a mint while studying, and eat the same flavor while taking the test, you have a higher chance of remembering the information.
  10. Figure out what the best study method is for you, and start studying your heart away!
    1. For example: My best studying habit is reading my notes out loud, coming up with some catchy songs, and hearing myself talk! I could do this for hours. Heck I HAVE done this for hours, and have aced my tests afterwards.
    2. You could always re-write the notes. I know it's tedious work, but when you rewrite your notes, you can remember a lot of what you studied.
    3. Flashcards! Go buy a set of flashcards. Write on them. Go through them 100 times until you know you have got it down.
Try the habits you think are best for you, and when you're done with your exam, you should probably invest your time in figuring out different study habits that are most efficient for you. Oh yeah, and also, try not to cram next time. Try to start studying like a week or two prior. Nonetheless, you probably won't because let's be honest, life catches you in a whirlwind, and sometimes you can't catch your breath. So, when this happens, refer back to this cram session post! Now go out, and pass that test!

Memorable Monday #8 (The Here and Now)

Monday, October 13, 2014

It's always the little things in life that make the world go round. Sometimes you can get so caught up in what you're doing that you forget to take a break and look around you. I am guilty of doing just that. I get so caught up in my studies, and extracurricular activities that I miss everything going on around me. I'm always thinking two steps forward like: what is due next week; where do I have to be at this time; is there any way I can squeeze some sleep in on this day; what is my next step when I get out of college; when am I going to get married; how many kids do I want; do I want to start my 401K plan soon? The list is endless, and let's be honest, most of those questions shouldn't even be on my mind at this point in my life.

However, there are those times when time seems to stop, and I catch my breath on the beauty around me, how lucky I am, and how much time I've wasted thinking about the future. What I should have been doing is looking at the here and now.

My memorable memory that came to me today, was the simplicity of one lone picture:

To many, this picture may just seem like another one of those family candid moments, but to me this picture says so much more. During the weekend, my younger brother came home from college, so my older brother and I decided this was the weekend we would visit my parents as well, and on our way we picked up our grandfather. Now, let me give you a bit of a back-story: this is the FIRST time my parents have ever had an empty house since before they were married.  It seems like they have no idea what to do with themselves. They sometimes call more than even I can bear…

So, I come out from my room, (I was doing homework) and I see my family around the coffee table conversing and laughing. I don't know what it was, but it gave me a kind of nostalgic feeling. It's been awhile since I've seen the whole family together. We are usually missing one person or another when we gather 'round. So, I tried to discreetly take a picture to savor the moment and the feelings that dared to come bursting out.

With this photo came a million memories that reminded me of the "good old days." I'm not one to like change, but I do accept it and adapt to it rather quickly. Nonetheless, memories of how it "was" makes me want them to become what "is" again. I like a big family. I love when my house is filled with them all. My family is there to strengthen me and help me grow as a person, and what this picture did was center me again. It made me come back to the reality of what is here and now, instead of the unforeseen future of myself. This is what I live for; the times where I can cherish something as small as a picture. I mean, if you think about it, the simplicity of a picture isn't so simple, since a picture says a thousand words. So how did your weekend go?

1 Concert, 2 Concert, 3 Concert, Floor

Meeting up with sorority sisters

What exactly do you do in order to give yourself that "umph" to keep you going on a day-to-day basis? Is it a family gathering, a vacation for the upcoming Thanksgiving break, or could it be the simplistic notion that after class, you can go home, watch Netflix, and sleep? Everyone has to look forward to something in the near future, in order for them to be able to get through the gruesome hours of school, or the tedious minutes that slowly pass by while at work.

For me, it is the monthly events I seem to be having on a regular basis. Ever since April, I have been to a concert every month, excluding August. There have been bigger concerts like Beyoncé, and smaller concerts like Birdy. It has been absolutely amazing! I didn't even realize I was doing it until I arrived at the month of July. By then, I had just gone to the Beyoncé concert, and I saw that on ticket master, I still had two other concerts lined up!

Well, my most recent concert that I had the pleasure of attending was the Ed Sheeran concert, with my friend, Krysten, my cousin, Kaitlyn, and her friend, Rosemary. Something you should probably know about me is that I LOVE Ed Sheeran. He is one of my favorite artists. The songs on my wedding list start with him, and end with him--well that's if and/or when I get married... During the month of September, I put my cute outfit on, and headed to the venue to wait in line (thank God there was no real line)!

Let me just say that out of the 20-ish concerts I've attended, this one was THE best. It topped them all off! It was not just because he is my favorite person in the whole wide world, but it was the fact that he was even better live then he was on recording. THIS IS VERY RARE. I have never encountered an artist that was better in person then they were in the studio. It just made my heart melt when he sang, Give Me Love. He interacted with the crowd, encouraged singing at the top of your lungs, and did a cute mess-up in one of his songs, but quickly recovered. I would tell everyone who's anyone that when he does another tour, there should be a credit card in hand, and a finger on the "buy ticket" button.

My October concert I get to go to is Somo. You know, that guy who sang the song Ride. I would advise you to get tickets if you like him, because they are very reasonably priced. My mom and cousin decided to surprise me with meet-and-greet tickets to go see him on Halloween! However, I am a bit sad I don't get to go trick-or-treating this year. I know what you're thinking, and the answer is yes, I still go trick-or-treating with my cousins. To be quite honest, I don't feel a lick of shame about it either! But it is worth the miss if I get to not only go to a concert, but meet the artist himself!

What can I say? I'm addicted, I know. What concert should I see in November?

A Product Gone Wrong

Friday, September 12, 2014

For my birthday, my mother got me this very beautiful box that contained a delicacy of makeup. At first site, my eyes lit up, and I became a bit flushed from excitement. However, I put it away, because I was trying to clean and reorganize my room, and completely forgot about it! When I took it out again, I decided to give myself a tiny makeover to see how it felt.

Let me just first start off by saying that I am a skeptic when it comes to putting on makeup that I have never tried before, but I usually give it a practice run before I decide to go out in the world and show my beauty. The brand my mom bought for me this time is called Lorac. I personally have never heard the name prior to receiving my gift, but my mother assured me that it was a good brand.
So, today was the day that I gave a trial run, and the trial run failed miserably!

I first took it out of its packaging, and found out that the sparkly box made me sparkly all over. That is a number one no no in my book. I HATE when I get all those sparkles on my skin, hair, and clothes. The second mistake came when I saw that the bronzer was a tad bit dark for my skin. When I first put it on, it made my face turn an ugly sort of uneven brown. I was absolutely horrified. I love a nice "glow" as much as the next person, but this color made my face look like an oompa loompa...

My next step was to put on some eye shadow. There were two different palettes, so I decided to try the night palette on my right eye, and the day palette one my left eye. I was hoping for a nice sultry look from the night palette, and an elegant light look for the day, but I was sadly disappointed by the outcome.

The night palette went on harshly; it didn't glide like my other eye shadow brands, like Urban Decay. I went for a white layer on the bottom, a gold for the top, and a silver/gray for the outside. I then proceeded to blend them all together, but they wouldn't blend! Half of my eye looks like night, while the other half looks like day. I then put on the black eye liner that was included, but it took me 7 tries before a little bit of the black went on. It kind of hurt my eye, because I had to press down hard in order for the color to be seen.

I then moved on to my left eye. For the day, I love wearing natural colors like brown. I first put on a peach/off-white on the bottom, a light brown on top, and a dark brown on the outside, then finished off the look with brown eyeliner. Guess what happened? It came out way too light. All of the colors I put on barely even show up! Another thing, the eyeliner turned out to be black, even though the color specifically says brown.

The last few things I did then was put blush on, and lip-gloss. I put a pink blush on the right side of my cheek, and a coral on the left. The blushes were fine; they just didn't give off a very visible color. The lip-gloss, however, was true to its name (Rose). I will admit that the lip-gloss was the best thing out of the box, and I don't even like lipgloss. I don't usually wear it, and I don't think I ever will, so for me, the gloss is a waste. Overall, my satisfaction rate for Lorac is a 1 out of 5 stars. Maybe it's just this box that was really awful, but who knows!

Oy Vey, what an adventure my face went through today. What awful makeup experiences have you had?

Memorable Monday #7 (You Wish You had a Brother Just Like Mine)

Monday, September 8, 2014

So, I know I've repeatedly spoken about one of my siblings, but today is the time to give credit to my other sibling--Alexander. This amazing older brother of mine is my rock. Now, I'm about to get cheesy here, so brace yourselves...

My older brother is incredible! He is there to protect me when I need protecting. He is there to help me with any type of trouble I get into. I hold no doubt in my mind that if I was being held at gun point, my brother would probably throw a rock at the person who's shooting, just to distract him enough to jump in front of me.

Now, I'm not the most mushy, emotional person out there, so, naturally, I don't usually express my love very often. But I kid you not, when I get moody, and I'm about to start my period, he goes out without saying anything, and comes home within the hour to give me chocolate. He knows when I don't want to talk, so being the brother that he is, he comes into my room and tries to cheer me up. Though it's only endearing to me after my atrocious mood passes...

For Valentine's day, I'm always ya know, single, so my brother always gets me flowers that way I never feel left out, haha. Sure, you're probably thinking this is pretty weird, but most Middle Eastern homes tend to be a lot more family-oriented, so it's never viewed as weird. A lot of people get very envious or impressed when they see the closeness I share with my siblings.

Alexander and I have this really weird sibling relationship. He always asks if I want to come out with him and his friends, and vice versa. Sure, we annoy each other, but since we went to college and started living together, we really know what irks us and what doesn't.

Before I came to college, everyone told me living with a sibling is the worst idea in the world, but honestly, it's the best idea I've ever had! We rarely ever fight anymore; and this time in our life is crucial. It's both an end and a beginning; an end of a childhood, and a beginning into adulthood. It gets scary sometimes thinking about growing up, but I got the upper hand. I have the advantage of leaving home, but still having home right across the hall. I don't think I could deal with strangers living with me either; I am annoyed very easily, and am not very tolerable. I like order, and schedules, and that's exactly what I get when living with my brother. The past three years have made us a lot closer, not that we weren't close before, but you get the point.  He is one of the best people to befriend, because his personality has always been him being the best person he can be to others. He gets the best presents; he listens when you need an ear, he comforts, and is very sincere. However, he can get a bit argumentative, but you can always just tune him out when that happens. He is my roommate, my best friend, my protector, my brother, and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Yet Another Year of Mental Breakdowns

Thursday, September 4, 2014

Source

Bonjour!

So, it's another year of books, and countless days of those nasty all-nighters we all tend to have to do at some point or another in college. I know that I've been outrageously busy this past week! What with getting my apartment all cleared and dusted. Then there are all my books, and classes I had to get organized. This year I also get the pleasure of being one of those annoying assistants that check people's work, while simultaneously looking at their computers to make sure they stay off Facebook; and let's be honest, you all know who you are...

I think this year will be one of those awful years where my home will be the library. But, hopefully I have enough time to keep in touch with my beloved books, friends, and blog. I already have dibs on my own personal cubby. If you don't believe me, here is a picture to prove it!

I'll keep you updated on the horrors of college throughout the semester. Caio for now!
How was your first week of school?

Review: Urban Decay Lipstick

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Within the past year, I have gotten into the habit of putting on lipstick. I'm one of those experimental junkies that love to try anything and everything. Most people just look at something and say, "ew, I would NEVER wear that." Well, here is the thing, I would. I've always felt this sense of respect for those people who could pull off the most exotic and "out-of-this-world" type looks. Therefore, when I see makeup that catches my eye, I buy it.

Lipstick is one of my weaknesses. When I see a color I don't have, I HAVE to buy it; and yes, that includes, but is not limited to: blue, orange, brown, and purple. I honestly love the different colors that highlight the features of your face in the most unusual way!

Well, today I'm going to be talking about Urban Decay. I LOVE love love, their products. They are one of those top-of-the-line brands that I find an enjoyable treat whenever I can snag something on sale. They are a little more on the pricier side, but so worth it. My mother recently purchased a few lipsticks from Urban Decay for an "I love you" treat. I had never actually tried lipsticks from Urban Decay prior to this, so I gave it a whirl, and let me tell you, it was an AMAZING experience to say the least. The lipstick glides on so smoothly, and the color looks great! It's a pleasant contrast in relation to the whiteness of my face, and when worn with dark makeup, it makes the eyes seem bigger, and doe-like.

I would highly recommend anyone buy this brand of lipstick. It stays on ALL day! I went out, had dinner, and even danced a little, and still it stayed on.

My current love affair is with the "Maniac" color. It can be described as a dark kind of maroon color. It looks great on people with dark hair. I've seen it on a couple of other people, and I think it makes them have a mysterious air to their look.

It has an estimated cost of $22 per bottle, but I honestly think you get your worth out of the bottle. If you're a lipstick addict like I am, try it out! You can always go to places like Sephora and try it out before buying. I promise, you won't be disappointed. What other brands or colors do you like?

Memorable Monday #6

Monday, August 18, 2014

Here we go again; paying tribute to yet another important person in my life. Now, you might have read something about a certain cousin in previous blogs. In all honesty, she's mentioned in a lot more than I can count, whether in passing or in detail. You might have also seen her in my YouTube post doing a duet to the song, Rather Be by Clean Bandit.
Well people, this cousin of mine is literally one of my best friends. I was there when she was born; I babysat her, and was a mother figure to her when we were both younger. True story: she used to call me "momma Alhana." It was quite endearing, well, years ago it was annoying, but now I find it a cherished memory of the past. I then went from being an adult figure to a friend, and as her and I both matured and got older, we became the closest of sisters.
Kaitlyn (my cousin) has been my friend and confidant, and I to her. We Skype and call on a daily basis, we go to all types of concerts together, and we have our random rant sessions. Sure, she can get annoying at times, but what little sister isn't?
My mom's side of the family is whom I have always been closet with growing up, and since Kaitlyn and I are in a semi-close age, we always hang out. She is my person who I see being with me throughout my whole life. I see us raising kids together, living in close proximity, and playing bridge when we're old with our husbands, on our patio. Ever since I could remember, when I pictured my future wedding, I also pictured her standing next to me as my maid-of-honor.
We've had some serious downs to our relationship, but also the most epic ups as well. She is the peanut butter to my jelly. We get each other in ways that is incomprehensible, and I am lucky to have her in my life. We are sisters to the end, and I will love her always and forever. Thanks Kaitlyn for always being the glue to my glitter.

Big Learning on a Small Device

Sunday, August 17, 2014

Source

Greetings Comrades,
So today was one of those days where I woke up, and forgot to check my phone before getting out of bed! Now come on, if we were all being honest with ourselves, you know you would say you do the same thing.

I have this daily routine when I wake up: I hear the alarm, roll over, slowly open my eyes, pet my dog, turn off the alarm, take the phone off the charger, and go through everything I missed during the night. I usually turn my phone off for the night so I will not be disturbed. I mean, come on, my beautiful looks can't always stay that way without a little bit of sleep!

Well, I proceeded to do everything else in my morning routine, and didn't look at my phone until I got to work. Man oh man, sometimes I can't even keep up with all the social media, daily updates, text messages, and emails I get bombarded with throughout the day.

As soon as I started looking at my phone I saw 10 new emails, 2 missed calls, 5 text messages, a few updates from apps like the weather, stocks, Snapchat, etc.

I looked through them all quickly, but then had to take my time with one of my all-time favorite apps: the Dictionary app. You're probably laughing at this new found piece of evidence that confirms my nerdness, but I don't really care. I LOVE everything about the dictionary app! I got it about a month ago when I saw my cousin going through it. I was looking at her with disdain on my face. I didn't really think that that app would be useful, but oh contraire! I have to say that I was wrong. But you shouldn't get used to it, because it is a rare occasion when I will admit it/am wrong.

This app gives me day-to-day updates on new words I can add to my vocabulary, and if you know me, you would know that I am a huge English person; therefore, I absolutely adore learning new words that will confuse most of the human population.

I can remember myself reading really hard books when I was in fourth grade, and either asking my mom what some words meant or getting myself a dictionary to learn them myself. Each time I learned something new, I would add it into my daily speech about 20 times a day (my brothers did NOT appreciate it at the time).

This app gives me the best, most unusual words in the English language. Let's get a few examples going:

Equanimity: a mental or emotional stability or composure, especially under tension or strain; calmness, equilibrium.
  • My equanimity saved me from making a huge mistake in front of my boss, while I was being lectured.
Klatsch: a casual gathering of people, especially for refreshments and informal conversation.
  • Ben went to the coffee shop for an afternoon klatsch with his friends.
Camelopard: a giraffe
  • Melissa saw a camelopard gazing at the trees.

However, that is not the only benefit you get from this app. You can also sign up for mPoints that give you points when you complete challenges, look at the word of the day, visit daily, etc. Those points let you put your name in a sweepstakes of your choice. They pick from a drawing pool, and you win if you get picked. So far I have put my name in for a $100 Sephora Gift Card, a $100 Amazon Gift Card, and a $200 Walmart Gift Card. Each time you put your name in for the drawing it's 100 mPoints. I collected almost 1000 points before I started putting my name in for drawings. Also, each day you put your name in for a drawing, you can get this star that serves as a "hole-punch," and after 20 stars, you can get money towards your next purchase on Amazon! Trust me, this app has it all.

So, lesson of the day? You should really get this app, and educate yourself, because if you do, you can reward yourself both mentally and physically. I hope you have a great Sunday. Au Revoir!

A Weekly Update Filled with Unexpected Events

Saturday, August 16, 2014

This past week has been quite a struggle for me to continuously get up really early and go to bed really late. My schedule has been overwhelmingly packed with work, shopping, parties, and even a few medical visits. Let's take a look at all the events that took place...

Friday
Friday of last week my mother had to go into surgery to get a spinal stimulator put in; so naturally, I had to be the one to take her, since I am the beloved/favorite child. I got up really early in the morning, picked her up, and we were off! It took about half of the day. We then ended up at my grandparent's house, and I stayed with her until I had to go up to my apartment. Well, it got to be a bit later than expected, and she didn't want me driving up by myself. Therefore, we ended having an adventure! I am a pretty stubborn child and like to be an independent woman, but my mom is also very stubborn and makes it so I can't spread my wings and fly. She is that type of mother bird that wants to make sure she can keep watch while her babies fly, that way if they ever do fall, she is always there to catch them. She wanted to come, but I refused because, well, she had just had surgery! Nevertheless, she got what she wanted in the end, and I ended up taking my grandfather, mother, cousin, and aunt with me as escorts up to my house. It was around 12 a.m. when I got there, and you could say we had a slumber party. Everyone was hungry, so I ordered a pizza, and it ended up being a dinner party too! My grandfather, who can barely walk, was having tons of fun. He doesn't get out much, and I think he lives for these unexpected days, and wants to make every single one of them count.

Saturday and Sunday
Well, the next day my family ended up leaving, and I got ready to go to my sorority retreat. It was filled with planners, discussions, sister bonding, food, fun, and much more. It was a really long retreat, but I'm glad I got to see my sisters after a summer of being apart.

Monday
WORK, WORK, and more WORK. I woke up early, drove 3 hours, and made it to work just in time. I got home really late too, so I didn't get the chance to sleep until 12-1 o' clock.

Tuesday
Yay for work! I did another shift of work from 9-9, so basically, I got home, took a shower, ate dinner, and fell asleep from exhaustion.

Wednesday
Today, I woke up really early, and went to my orthodontist appointment. See, I had already had braces previously, and had to have a tooth implant put in after I got my braces off. However, due to unforeseen events, I didn't get it done four years ago. I went this year to get a consult, and found out that the gap for that tooth was not wide enough. Let's just say I was not a happy camper. So, after much thought I have decided that I have no other choice but to get...braces. :*(
I saw my orthodontist, and we agreed upon a plan that cost almost nothing since technically it was not my fault. I, folks, will now be styling Invisalign within the next couple of weeks, so get ready for pictures in the near future!
After my eventful appointment, I went to my younger brother's friend's house to do a pre-pageant run of her makeup. We worked tirelessly for two hours trying to figure out how her makeup would look, and I can honestly say, I was even impressed with my handiwork.
I then rushed to go pick up my brother from work, so I could go get my eyebrows done, and then we could go shopping for school.
That's right. My baby brother is about to leave to go off to some foreign land called college this week. We spent almost 4 hours shopping for his dorm, and his classes, and let me just tell you, it was awful. I don't know what it is, but I HATE shopping with the opposite sex. They just don't get HOW to shop. It annoys me to no avail. My brother got so annoyed of my complaining that he bought me froyo just to get me to shut up--mind you, it was really good. We finally got home after a long day, and I went to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Thursday
Well, if you had to guess, what would you think I did? That's right, you guessed it, I worked! I did another 9-9 shift and fell asleep as soon as I got home.

Friday
I woke up really early, and drove an hour just to make it to my doctor's appointment by 9:00 am. Thank God it wasn't busy, because I cannot stand waiting in the doctor's office all day. I then went to my grandparent's house, since they live right next door, and made breakfast for my momma and me. I then had to go shopping for some last minute gifts for my little, Sarah. I made her an amazing care package/dorm basket that I know will come in handy for the months ahead.
Unfortunately, she is about to leave and go to the place of dreams--New York! I'm so happy for her, but also really sad to see her leave. However, she wanted everyone to see her off, so she had herself a little going away party, which was spectacular! She set up a tent outside, with lights all around, and beautiful tables and chairs. She had tons of food, music, and people too! I left the party at a really late time, and arrived back at my grandparent's house at around 1:00 am. Thank goodness my mother was still up, or else I would not have been able to get into the house. By the time I fell asleep, it felt like a minute had past before I had to wake up, and drive back home so I could work at 9:00 am.

Care Package: dry shampoo, chocolate, nail polish, nail polish remover, Tylenol, A wall poster calendar, highlighters, pens, markers, lotion, soap, a loofa, eye liner, cotton swabs, Band-Aids, cute duct tape, Tide to Go, gum, and a pixie stick.

But first, lemme take a selfie

Let's just say I had one of those very crazy weeks. How was yours?

10 Things Only Middle Children Will Understand

Saturday, August 9, 2014

You can always pick out the middle child from the other children in a family. They think, act, and may even look a bit different. Now, I'm not an expert, but through experience, and through the eyes of others, I have come to conclusion that a middle child is most likely to experience this:

  • You are the quietest in the family, and therefore, can worm your way in and out of everything.
  • You hear EVERYTHING that happens in your household without anyone knowing how you got that information.
  • You are close to both your younger and older sibling (s).
  • You are the peacekeeper when your family seems to be going through a tough patch.
  • Most of the time, you get the least attention. Your parents already went through the worry and joy with a first child, and the youngest is the one that is spoiled and coddled the most. Since both parents know they won't be having children anytime soon, they always feel this nostalgia, and make it so they give the youngest sibling the most attention.
    • The middle child just stands there thinking: "Uh, hello! I'm right here! What about me?"
    • You'll be lucky if your parents throw you a bone, and show you some love and affection when something happens with one of your other siblings.
  • When you're younger you feel very left out, and have low self-esteem, but as you get older you see how awesome it is, and that self-esteem of yours skyrockets. Obviously you see that being a middle child has so many more advantages when you're older.
  • You are usually an easygoing type of person. Your older sibling has a Type A personality, you have a Type B personality, and the younger sibling (s) is a toss in the air (they could go either way).
  • You are usually more flexible with your schedule, and are willing to go with unplanned events.
  • You always know that when times get rough, your siblings have your back.
  • You are the glue that holds the whole family together, and if were ever removed from the equation, they wouldn't know how to survive without you.

Let's just say, it's never boring when you're in the middle!

Middle children who often must break the mold set by their siblings may thereby learn to challenge family values and seek their own identity.
